The international community sails up the waters of the Nervion Estuary
- Bizkaia Talent has gathered a group of thirty highly qualified professionals and international post-graduates to make a tour by boat from Bilbao to Santurtzi.
On the 11th May Bizkaia Talent carried out the third sociocultural activity of the year, aimed at both highly qualified professionals who, for work-related reasons, have settled in the Basque Country, as well as at international students who are currently carrying out their studies at the Basque universities, with the aim of fostering social integration.
On this occasion the international community was immersed in the cultural depths of the Basque Country by means of a voyage along the waters of the emblematic Nervion estuary, from Bilbao to Santurtzi which enabled them to contemplate authentic works of art such as the Guggenheim Museum, symbol of the new Bilbao and one of the most ambitious cultural projects of the twentieth century, or Bizkaia Bridge, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as one of the most outstanding constructions of the industrial revolution and of iron-based architecture.
Having docked in the port of Santurtzi, the participants visited the Agurtza ship, converted into a ship-museum and fishing technique interpretation centre where they were able to discover the art of fishing for white tuna and how to preserve this highly valued fish. They went on to the Itsasoa Museoa interpretation centre to learn about the history and maritime traditions of Santurtzi. After this, the group went to a local restaurant where they enjoyed a home-made menu.
Participating in the activity were people from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Iran, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru and the Spanish State belonging to the following organizations: IED Kunsthal Bilbao; Deusto University; University of the Basque Country; CIC bioGUNE; BCMaterials – Basque Center for Materials, Applications and Nanostructures; BCAM – Basque Center for Applied Mathematics; Tecnalia Forundation; Mosaikus.
