Bilbao is the fourth best large European city for foreign investment according to The Financial Times
- The capital of Bizkaia climbs six positions in a ranking drawn up by the British publishing group regarding the capacity to attract foreign capital.
Bilbao has been recognised as the fourth best large European city in terms of attracting direct foreign investment, according to the European Cities and Regions of the Future 2024 ranking in the magazine fDi Intelligence which belongs to the British publication The Financial Times.
The ranking, which assesses 370 European cities according to their capacity to attract, retain and increase direct foreign investment, evaluates the overall work of local governments with respect to promoting foreign investment, establishing the potential for each of the cities in this regard. Over 80 indicators were used in its elaboration, divided into five categories: economic potential, human capital and lifestyle, profitability, connectivity and ease of doing business.
Bilbao has climbed six positions after entering the top 10 of the ranking last year; the city was incorporated for the first time in the category of “large cities” in 2023. This classification encompasses cities with populations of over 500,000, as well as those which have a metropolitan area of over a million inhabitants.
