Bilbao, the fifth-ranked European city with the highest educational level, according to the Europe’s Best Cities 2024 report

- The report, produced by the American consultancy Resonance, also places Bilbao as the eleventh European city with the highest number of companies in the Global Fortune 500 list with headquarters in the city.
The Europe’s Best Cities 2024, which classifies the 100 best European places in terms of living, working and visiting, has placed Bilbao in 53rd position, 31 places ahead of the results of the 2023 report. The research is based on the analysis of over 180 European cities, and mainly considers cities with metropolitan areas of over 500,000 inhabitants. The highest placed cities in the ranking are London, Paris and Berlin, respectively.
The Bizkaia capital has made a great new achievement by being acknowledged as the fifth city in Europe with the highest level of education. This achievement underlines the commitment of the Basque Country with academic excellence, possessing as it does one of the highest percentages of inhabitants with a bachelor’s degree or higher.
The report also highlights that Bilbao is becoming an attractive place for big corporations. In fact, it is in eleventh position in terms of European cities with the largest number of companies in the Global Fortune 500 list with headquarters in the city, amongst which the financial giants BBVA and the multinational company Iberdrola stand out.
“Intelligent, safe and economically vibrant, Bilbao is redesigning the European good life” the report informs, and it goes on to describe the city as “one of Europe’s most welcoming cities”. Proof of this is its 13th position in the ranking with respect to green spaces, such as parks and woodland areas within the urban space of the city.
