Bizkaia Talent participates in Brussels in the European Commission conference on Research Careers
- The association took part as an expert panelist in a session focused on the circulation of research talent.
Aware of the fundamental role which research workers play in the shaping of Europe’s future, the European Commission (EC) is speeding up its efforts, within the framework of the new policy of the European Research Area (ERA), to make careers in research attractive, rewarding and stable.
On this occasion, on the 21st and 22nd November Bizkaia Talent attended an important conference organised by the EC in Brussels: Conference on Research Careers 2023. The event, which focused on research and innovation, highlighted the lack of professional stability which is currently undermining the attractiveness of research careers across Europe. The event brought together experts, relevant politicians, trainers and research workers who shared their experiences and reflected together on the future.
Ms Carmen Méndez de Castro, who in charge of the Relocation & Be Basque Dual Career Centre service of the Basque association, participated on the first day of the conference in a session devoted to the circulation of research talent. Ms Méndez de Castro related several specific cases to emphasise the added value offered by Bizkaia Talent as a member of the EURAXESS network, in terms of advising universities, research centres, start-ups and companies which attract international research personnel. Furthermore, she stressed the importance of accompanying these professionals in their arrival process, helping them to develop their personal relationships by means of social encounters and providing support to their partners to enable them to integrate well into the society welcoming them.
